Give an actor a voice
One voice per actor carries through every scene and narration. Design one, pick one, or upload a recording.

On this page
Each actor can have one voice, and that voice is used everywhere the actor speaks: dialogue in their video clips and any narration read in their voice. Open the actor from the Actors library and find the Voice section.
Five ways to create the voice
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Describe | Describe the voice in words and pick one of three options. This is the default for a new actor. |
| From image | Generates a voice that suits the actor's headshot. |
| ElevenLabs | Pick an existing voice from the ElevenLabs voice library. |
| Voice Design | Reuse a voice your workspace has already designed. |
| Upload | Use a recording of a real voice, such as your own. |
Describing a voice
The more detail the better: language, gender, age, voice quality, persona, emotion, and pacing. For example: "An older man, warm and gravelly, speaks slowly with quiet authority, Middle Eastern accent." Listen to the three options, change the preview line if you want to hear a specific sentence, and choose Use this voice. Keeping one of the previews is free.
Uploading a real voice
You can only upload a voice you have the right to use. Before the studio will clone an uploaded recording, you must confirm: "This is my voice, or I have the speaker's written permission to use it." AI-generated voices do not need this confirmation.
Voice effects
Effects you add in the voice section are baked into the voice itself, so every scene and video carries them.
Changing a voice later
You can replace an actor's voice at any time. New dialogue and narration use the new voice; anything you already generated keeps the voice it was made with.
What a voice costs
- From image and Describe generate audio, so they spend a small number of credits. The button shows the cost before you press it.
- Keeping one of the Describe previews, picking an ElevenLabs or Voice Design voice, and uploading a recording are free.
- The voice itself is free to use after that; you only pay for the dialogue and narration you generate with it.
