Make your first video

A step-by-step walkthrough from a blank project to an exported video, using Storyboard Mode.

On this page

This walkthrough uses Storyboard Mode, the image-first workflow. You make a still for each shot, then animate it into video. Plan on a working session for a short video: most of the time is generation running in the background while you review takes.

1. Create the project

  1. From the dashboard, start a New Project and choose Storyboard Mode.
  2. Give it a Project Title.
  3. Turn on Biblical Mode if it is a Bible story. It adds period details and keeps modern objects out of frame.
  4. Pick an Aspect Ratio and a Visual Style, then press Create Project.

You can read more about each choice in Styles, aspect ratios and Biblical Mode.

2. Add your script

On the next screen choose Start my video story to open the Shots tab. Paste your script, upload a file, or generate one from an idea, then press Greenlight Script. The studio breaks it into scenes and shots, each with a prompt you can edit. See How your script becomes shots.

3. Cast your characters

Create an actor for each character who appears more than once, and a location for each recurring place. This is the step that keeps a face looking like the same person from shot to shot. See Create consistent actors.

4. Generate images

Open the Images tab and generate a still for each shot. Re-roll any you don't like, edit a prompt, or adjust a detail before you move on. The still becomes the first frame of the video, so it is worth getting right.

5. Animate into video

Open the Videos tab, pick a video model, and generate a clip for each shot. Spoken lines come from the prompt box, so check each one says what you want before you generate. See Generate video clips.

6. Add audio

On the Audio tab, add narration and music. See Add narration.

7. Assemble and export

Open Post-Production to arrange your clips and audio on the timeline, then export. See Export your video.
